INTERNAL MEDICINE
What is Internal Medicine?
Internal medicine is essentially primary care for adults.
What Does an Internist Do?
Internal medicine is a vast field. Internists might treat patients as young as 18 years old and as old as a full century. The types of cases they see are equally varied.
Internists treat chronic illnesses like heart failure, diabetes, and hypertension to acute medical issues like sprains and sinus infections, and so on. Internists perform exams, make diagnoses, prescribe treatments, administer vaccines, and recommend preventive measures and even wellness programs.
The expansive nature of internal medicine means internists are well equipped to handle many different medical conditions. They also have a better understanding of when referral to a specialist is needed, and what type of referral is required.
This is where an internist’s skills come in handy— to determine when their patient needs to confirm a diagnosis or seek more specialized care.
DON'T MISS APPOINTMENT WITH YOUR LOW T or HOUSTON ADHD DOCTOR
Don’t let long hours at work prevent you from getting the care that you deserve. Individuals with ADHD often experience difficulties in maintaining focus, regulating impulsive actions (potentially acting without considering the consequences), or exhibiting excessive activity levels. While ADHD cannot be cured, effective management strategies can be employed, and some symptoms may lessen as the individual grows older. Visit CDC for more information.
